Spitballs

Back in April 2003, Steve mentioned that he had seen a BBC retrospective of The Old Grey Whistle Test including a version of "Telstar". In the background were The Smirks, as a sort of backing singer group, playing tennis racquets! So I went looking for some pictures, and I found some at Les Kneeling's website.

Spitballs was one of the more outlandish Beserkley acts, being composed of various members of the Beserkley team. I believe there was a Spitballs album, but I don't think that one was released either. The only record I know they released was a single with "Telstar" (the old Tornados hit) on the A side and "Boris The Spider" (the old The Who hit) on the B side. Further information about this band and their connection with The Smirks is, of course, welcome.

what I like about Beserkley

That's what I like about Beserkley, not only do they continue to display a lemming-like perversity in bringing out records there's no earthly reason for anyone to buy, but when they do go over the top, they choose to do it together.
